Description
Kilim rugs differ significantly from hand-knotted rugs in that they are woven by hand. They do not have a raised pile of wool, which makes them flatter and rougher than knotted wool rugs. Due to their less elaborate construction, kilims are generally significantly less expensive. Another advantage of kilim rugs is their lightness, which allows them to be laid out on both the front and back sides. Hand-woven kilims originally come from former Persia, but today they are also frequently produced in Afghanistan. Their patterns are usually simple and straightforward, which is due to the weaving technique. Kilim rugs are valued for their practical properties and traditional craftsmanship.
