Description
Kilim rugs differ significantly from hand-knotted varieties as they are woven by hand and do not have a high wool pile. This makes them flatter and rougher, but also cheaper to produce. One advantage is their lightness and the fact that they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, hand-woven kilims are now also produced in Afghanistan. They are characterised by their simple, linear patterns, which are created by the weaving technique. These rugs embody traditional craftsmanship and are popular for both their aesthetic and functional qualities.
