Description
Kilim rugs differ fundamentally from hand-knotted rugs in that they are woven by hand and do not have a high wool pile, which makes them flatter and rougher. This makes them less complex to manufacture and generally less expensive. Another advantage is their lightness and the fact that they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, kilims are now also frequently produced in Afghanistan. They are characterised by their simple, linear patterns, which are created by the special weaving technique.
