Description
Unlike hand-knotted carpets, kilim carpets are woven by hand, which makes them flatter and rougher as they do not have a high wool pile. This results in lower production costs due to the less complex manufacturing process. Kilim rugs are also lighter and can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, they are now also widely produced in Afghanistan. Their characteristic, simple patterns are created using a special weaving technique.
