Description
Kilim rugs differ significantly from hand-knotted varieties in that they are hand-woven, have a low pile and a rough texture without protruding wool. This makes them less expensive and lighter than traditional wool rugs. Kelim rugs can be used on both sides and are known for being easy to manufacture compared to elaborately knotted rugs. Originally from Persia, they are now also produced in Afghanistan and are characterised by simple, linear patterns created by their special weaving technique.
