Description
Kilim rugs differ significantly from hand-knotted varieties as they are woven by hand. As a result, they lack the typical fluffy wool pile and are generally flatter and rougher. This method of production is less labour-intensive and therefore more cost-effective. Another advantage is their lower weight and the fact that they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, kilims are now also widely produced in Afghanistan. They are characterised by simple, linear patterns created by their weaving technique.
