Description
Kilim rugs differ fundamentally from hand-knotted rugs in terms of their manufacturing technique: they are woven by hand and do not have a high wool pile, which makes them flatter and more robust than knotted wool rugs. Due to their less complex construction, kilims are generally less expensive. Another advantage is their lower weight and the fact that they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, kilims are now also frequently produced in Afghanistan. Their designs are characterised by simple, linear patterns created by the specific weaving technique.
