Description
Kilim rugs differ fundamentally from hand-knotted rugs in that they are woven by hand and do not have a high wool pile. This makes them flatter and rougher, which allows them to be produced more cost-effectively. Due to their lower weight, they are practical and can be used on both sides. Originally from former Persia, they are now also widely manufactured in Afghanistan. Kelims are characterised by their simple, linear patterns, which are created by the weaving technique.
