Description
Kilim rugs differ significantly from hand-knotted rugs in that they are woven by hand. They do not have a high wool pile and are therefore flatter and rougher than knotted wool rugs. Due to the less complex manufacturing process, they are generally less expensive. Another advantage is their lower weight and the fact that they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, hand-woven kilims are now also frequently produced in Afghanistan. Their patterns are typically simple and straightforward, which is due to the special weaving technique. Kilim rugs are known for their craftsmanship and their versatility in different rooms and environments.
