Kilim rugs differ from hand-knotted rugs in that they are hand-woven without a thick wool pile, making them flatter and more robust. This simple manufacturing process makes them more affordable. They are lighter and can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, they are now often produced in India. They are characterised by simple, linear patterns created by the weaving technique.
