Unlike hand-knotted carpets, kilim carpets are woven by hand without a high wool pile. This makes them flatter, rougher and less expensive. They are lighter and can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, they are now also manufactured in India. Their patterns are simple and straightforward due to their special weaving technique.
