Description
Kilim rugs differ fundamentally from hand-knotted varieties in that they are woven by hand without a high wool pile. This makes them flatter, rougher and often less expensive. An additional advantage is their lower weight and the possibility of using them on both sides. Originally from Persia, they are now mainly produced in India. Kelim carpets are characterised by their simple, linear patterns, which are created by their special weaving technique.
