Description
Kilim carpets differ from hand-knotted carpets in that they are hand-woven without a raised wool pile, which makes them flatter and rougher. This less elaborate method of manufacture often results in lower prices. Another advantage is their lightness and the fact that they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, kilims are now also produced in Afghanistan. Their characteristic, simple patterns are the result of a special weaving technique that produces straight lines.
