Unlike hand-knotted carpets, kilim carpets are woven by hand, which means they do not have a high wool pile and are flatter and rougher. This method of production makes them more affordable and lighter, and they can also be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, kilims are now also increasingly produced in Afghanistan. They are characterised by their simple, linear patterns, which are created by the special weaving technique.
