Description
Kilim rugs differ fundamentally from hand-knotted rugs in that they are woven by hand and do not have a raised pile of wool. This makes them flatter and rougher, which explains their lower production costs. Another advantage is their lower weight and the fact that they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, kilims are now also frequently produced in Afghanistan. They are known for their simple, linear patterns, which are created by the special weaving technique.
