Description
Unlike hand-knotted carpets, kilim carpets are woven by hand without a high wool pile, which makes them flatter and rougher. This method of production is less labour-intensive and therefore less expensive. Kelim rugs are lighter and more versatile as they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, they are now also widely produced in Afghanistan. Their patterns are usually simple and straightforward, due to the weaving technique.
