Description
Kilim rugs differ fundamentally from hand-knotted rugs in that they are woven by hand and do not have a high wool pile. This makes them flatter and rougher, and less expensive to produce. Another advantage is their lightness and the fact that they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, kilims are now also widely produced in Afghanistan. They are known for their simple, linear patterns, which are created using a special weaving technique.
