Description
Kilim rugs differ fundamentally from hand-knotted varieties in that they are hand-woven and do not have a high wool pile, which makes them flatter and rougher. This simpler manufacturing process results in lower production costs. An additional advantage is their lower weight and the fact that they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, kilims are now also widely produced in Afghanistan. They are characterised by their simple, linear patterns, which are created by the special weaving technique.
