Description
Unlike hand-knotted carpets, kilim carpets are woven by hand without a thick wool pile, making them flatter and rougher. This manufacturing process is less complex and generally makes them more affordable. One advantage is their lightness and the fact that they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, they are now also widely produced in Afghanistan. They are characterised by their simple, linear patterns, which are created by the special weaving technique.
