Description
Kilim rugs differ significantly from hand-knotted varieties in that they are woven by hand and do not have a high wool pile, which makes them flatter and rougher. This less elaborate method of manufacture results in significantly lower production costs. Another advantage is their lower weight and the fact that they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, hand-woven kilims are now also frequently produced in Afghanistan. They are characterised by their simple, linear patterns, which are created by the special weaving technique.
