Description
Kilim rugs differ fundamentally from hand-knotted varieties in their weaving technique instead of the raised wool pile. They are flatter and rougher, which makes them less expensive. These rugs are woven by hand, which makes their production less labour-intensive. A major advantage is their lightness and the fact that they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, they are now increasingly produced in Afghanistan. Their patterns are usually simple and straightforward, characterised by the weaving technique.
