Description
Kilim rugs differ significantly from hand-knotted rugs in that they are woven by hand. They do not have a raised pile of wool and are often flatter and rougher than knotted wool rugs. This method of production is less labour-intensive, making kilim rugs significantly less expensive. Another advantage is their low weight, and they can be used on both sides. Hand-woven kilims originally come from former Persia, but today they are also frequently manufactured in Afghanistan. Their patterns are rather simple and straightforward, which is due to the weaving technique.
