Description
Kilim rugs differ fundamentally from hand-knotted rugs in that they are woven by hand and do not have a raised wool pile. They are often flatter and rougher, which makes them cheaper to produce. Due to their lightweight nature, they can be used on both sides, which makes them easier to care for and minimises washing problems. Originally from ancient Persia, hand-woven kilims are now also widely produced in Afghanistan. They are known for their simple, linear patterns, which are created using a special weaving technique.
