Description
Kilim rugs differ fundamentally from hand-knotted varieties in that they are hand-woven and do not have a high wool pile, which makes them flatter and rougher. This results in lower production costs and easier handling, as they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, they are now increasingly manufactured in Afghanistan. Their characteristic, simple and linear patterns are created using a special weaving technique. Kilims are known for their versatility and are particularly valued in the art of carpet making due to their manufacturing method and cultural origins.
