Description
Kilim rugs differ significantly from hand-knotted rugs in that they are woven by hand and do not have a raised pile of wool. They are therefore often flatter and rougher than knotted wool rugs. Their less elaborate construction generally makes them significantly less expensive. Another advantage of kilim rugs is their low weight, which makes them easier to handle and allows them to be used on both sides. Hand-woven kilims originally come from former Persia, but today they are also frequently manufactured in Afghanistan. Their rather simple, linear patterns are the result of the special weaving technique used in their production.
