Description
Kilim rugs differ significantly from hand-knotted rugs in that they are woven by hand. They do not have a raised wool pile, which makes them flatter and rougher than knotted wool rugs. They are less labour-intensive to produce, which generally makes them significantly less expensive. Another advantage of kilim rugs is their lightness, which means they can be laid out easily on both sides. Hand-woven kilims originally come from former Persia, but are now increasingly manufactured in Afghanistan. The rugs are characterised by rather simple, straightforward patterns, which are created by the special weaving technique. These characteristics make kilim rugs an attractive and versatile choice.
