Description
Unlike hand-knotted rugs, kilim rugs are woven by hand, giving them a flatter, rougher character without raised wool pile. This simpler construction often makes them more affordable. Another advantage is their lower weight and the fact that they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, they are now also widely produced in Afghanistan. Their designs are typically simple and straightforward, characterised by the special weaving technique.
