Description
Kilim rugs differ fundamentally from hand-knotted rugs in that they are hand-woven, which means they do not have a thick pile and are flatter and rougher. This makes them cheaper to produce. Kelim rugs are lighter and more versatile as they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, they are also produced in Afghanistan. Their designs are characterised by simple, linear patterns created by the special weaving technique.
