Kilim rugs differ from hand-knotted rugs in their hand-weaving technique and the absence of a high wool pile, which makes them flatter and rougher. This less complex manufacturing process usually makes them less expensive. In addition, they are lighter and more versatile as they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, hand-woven kilims are now also manufactured in India. They are characterised by their simple, linear patterns, which are created by the special weaving technique.
