Description
Kilim rugs are woven by hand and differ significantly from hand-knotted varieties in that they do not have a raised wool pile and are often flatter and rougher. They are less labour-intensive to produce, which makes them more affordable. Another advantage is their lower weight and the fact that they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, they are now also widely produced in Afghanistan. Kelims are characterised by their simple, linear patterns, which are created by a special weaving technique.
