Description
Kilim rugs are characterised by their hand-weaving, in contrast to hand-knotted rugs with their high wool pile. This makes kilims flatter, rougher and cheaper to produce. Their lightness allows them to be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, they are now also widely produced in Afghanistan. Their simple, linear patterns are characteristic of their weaving technique. Kelim rugs are popular for their cultural and historical significance as well as their versatility.
