Description
Unlike hand-knotted carpets, kilim carpets are woven by hand, which means they do not have a high wool pile and are often flatter and rougher. This type of production is less labour-intensive and therefore usually less expensive. Another advantage is their lower weight and the fact that they can be used on both sides. Originally from ancient Persia, kilim rugs are now also widely produced in Afghanistan. They are known for their simple, linear patterns, which are created by the special weaving technique.
