Description
Kilim rugs differ fundamentally from hand-knotted rugs in that they are woven by hand. They do not have a high wool pile and are often flatter and rougher than knotted rugs. This makes them cheaper to produce. One advantage of kilim rugs is their lightness and the fact that they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, they are now also widely produced in Afghanistan. Their patterns are typically simple and straightforward, which is due to their special weaving technique.
