Description
Unlike hand-knotted rugs, kilim rugs are woven by hand, which means they do not have a thick wool pile and are rather flat and rough. They are less labour-intensive to produce and therefore less expensive. Another advantage is their low weight and the fact that they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, kilims are now also manufactured in Afghanistan. They are characterised by simple, linear patterns created by a special weaving technique.
