Kilim rugs differ fundamentally from hand-knotted rugs in that they are woven by hand without a high wool pile. This makes them flatter and rougher, and often less expensive. They are lighter and can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, they are now also manufactured in India. Their simple, straight patterns are created by a special weaving technique.
