Kilim carpets differ from hand-knotted carpets in that they are woven without a high wool pile, which makes them flatter and rougher. They are less expensive and lighter, and can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, they are now also produced in India. Their patterns are simple and straightforward, due to their special weaving technique.
