Description
Kilim carpets differ fundamentally from hand-knotted varieties in that they are woven by hand and do not have a high wool pile. This makes them flatter and rougher, and often less expensive. An additional advantage is their lower weight and the fact that they can be used on both sides. Originally from Persia, kilims are now also frequently manufactured in India. Their designs are characterised by simple, linear patterns created by a special weaving technique.
