Gabbeh means "raw" in Persian and refers to simple, rustic carpets. Since the early 1990s, they have enjoyed growing popularity as they offer a more relaxed, folksy alternative to traditional Persian carpets. Gabbeh carpets are characterised by thick, luxurious pile, diverse colours and bold geometric patterns. These patterns can be abstract or representational, often depicting animals or people. Usually made of wool, they vary in size from small mats to large carpets and fit into any room in the house.
