Gabbeh carpets are hand-knotted in Iran and India. The name means "raw" in Farsi and describes a simple, rustic style. Since the 1990s, they have been popular as a more relaxed alternative to traditional Persian carpets. Gabbehs have a thick, luxurious pile, many colours and feature cool, geometric or animal motifs, abstract or representational. Usually made of wool, they vary in size from small mats to large carpets and fit into any room in the house.
