Gabbeh rugs, whose name means "raw" in Farsi, have become popular since the early 1990s. They offer a more relaxed alternative to traditional Persian rugs, which are associated with classic interiors. These rugs have a thick pile, a variety of colours and bold geometric patterns, often with abstract or figurative motifs such as animals or people. Mostly made of wool, they can also contain cotton or other materials, and their size varies from small mats to large rugs for any room in the home.
