Gabbeh means "raw" in Persian and describes a simple, rustic rug. Since the early 1990s, they have become more popular as more relaxed alternatives to traditional Persian rugs. Gabbeh rugs are characterised by thick pile, many colours and bold geometric patterns. These patterns can be abstract or representational, often featuring animals or people. Mostly made of wool, they are also available in cotton or other materials. From small mats to large rugs, they fit into any room in the house.
