Gabbeh, Persian for "raw", have become more popular since the early 1990s as rustic alternatives to traditional Persian rugs. They offer a thick pile, a variety of colours and cool geometric and animal motifs. These patterns can be abstract or representational, often depicting animals or people. Gabbeh rugs are usually made of wool and range in size from small mats to large carpets, suitable for any room in the house.
