Gabbeh means "raw" in Persian and describes a simple, rustic rug. Since the early 1990s, they have become increasingly popular as they offer a more relaxed, folk-inspired alternative to traditional Persian rugs. Gabbeh carpets are characterised by thick, luxurious pile, a variety of colours and bold, geometric patterns. Their designs can be abstract or representational, often depicting animals or people. Mostly made of wool, they are also available in cotton or other materials. From small mats to large carpets, they can be used in any room.
