Gabbeh, a Farsi word meaning "raw," describes rustic rugs that have been popular since the 1990s as a more relaxed alternative to traditional Persian rugs. They are characterised by thick pile, diverse colours and bold geometric patterns. Often abstract or representational, they frequently depict animals or people. Mostly made of wool, some are made of cotton or other materials and vary in size from mats to large rugs for any interior design.
