Gabbeh, Farsi for "raw", are simple, rustic rugs that have been popular since the early 1990s as a relaxed alternative to traditional Persian rugs. They have a thick pile, many colours and bold geometric patterns, often with abstract or figurative motifs such as animals or people. Gabbehs are usually made of wool, but also of cotton or other materials, and range in size from small mats to large carpets for any room in the house.
