The term "Gabbeh" means "raw" in Farsi and describes a simple, rustic rug. Since the early 1990s, Gabbeh rugs have been popular as a relaxed, folk alternative to traditional Persian rugs. They have a thick, luxurious pile, a variety of colours and bold geometric patterns. They often feature abstract or representational motifs such as animals or people. Mostly made of wool, there are also versions made of cotton or other materials, in sizes ranging from small mats to large carpets suitable for any room.
