The term "Gabbeh" means "raw" in Farsi and describes a simple, rustic rug. Since the early 1990s, Gabbeh rugs have become increasingly popular as a relaxed, folk alternative to traditional Persian rugs. They are characterised by thick, luxurious pile, diverse colours and bold geometric patterns that can depict abstract or representational motifs such as animals or people. Mostly made of wool, they are also available in cotton or other materials, in sizes ranging from small mats to large carpets for any room.
