Gabbeh rugs, hand-knotted in Iran and India, mean "raw" in Farsi and represent a simple, rustic rug style. Popular since the early 1990s as a more relaxed alternative to traditional Persian rugs, which often accompany formal interiors. Gabbehs are characterised by a thick, luxurious pile, diverse colours and cool, geometric or animal motifs, whether abstract or representational. Mostly made of wool, they vary in size from small mats to large rugs and fit into any room in the house.
