Gabbeh rugs, from the Persian for "raw", are hand-knotted in Iran and India. Increasingly popular since the early 1990s, they offer a more relaxed, folk-art alternative to traditional Persian rugs. With thick, luxurious pile and a variety of colours, they feature cool geometric or animal patterns, abstract or representational. Mostly made of wool, sometimes cotton, they vary in size from small mats to large rugs and are suitable for any room in the house.
