Gabbeh rugs, hand-knotted in Iran and India, are known for their simplicity and rusticity. The name "Gabbeh" means "raw" in Farsi and describes their uncomplicated nature. Since the early 1990s, they have been popular as a relaxed alternative to traditional Persian rugs, which are often associated with formal interior design. Gabbehs have a thick, luxurious pile, a variety of colours and feature cool geometric and animal motifs, often abstract or representational. Usually made of wool on wool, they range in size from small mats to large rugs, suitable for any room in the house.
